Breaking News: 6v6 Is Back
News about Overwatch just dropped, and it is sure to thrill fans. The homecoming of the popular 6v6 format has been confirmed through Blizzard about Overwatch 2. At first, the event was expected to be released during Season 14, which is due to go live on December 10.
Two-Phase Testing Approach
Phase One: Flexible Role Queue
From its first week of Season 14, players will discover a renewed version of the good old 6v6. The new system implements the following key changes:
- Minimum of one hero per role: Tank, DPS, Support
- Maximum three heroes per role
- Flexible team composition for remaining slots
- Enhanced strategic possibilities while maintaining team balance

Phase Two: Modern Evolution
This will be the mid-season update with a refined version of 6v6.
- Hero reworks to Overwatch 2
- Crowd control heroes are decreased impact
- Balances classic gameplay with modern mechanics
New 5v5 Variations
Apart from the 6v6 tests, Blizzard will also be bringing along some great changes to be adopted in the 5v5 format going on-
- Limitation of two heroes to a role
- Introducing the “Kingmaker” mode
- Bonus features for solo roles players
- More strategy depth
- Tank performance in open queue is modified

What This Means for Players
The team develops the possibility of keeping both 5v5 and 6v6 formats: it means more choice for the players; that is, greater variance in competitive experiences as well as the attraction to veteran and new players alike.
What’s Next?
Though 6v6 is going to be the major milestone in the entire Overwatch community, its success is highly dependent upon how the players take in this gameplay during the testing phases. The winter season 14 will look back at Season 14; the Month of December, which is slated for launch. It will be instrumental in what the future holds for the new gameplay format for Overwatch 2.
